A Song for Patrick (One More Jig)

Yesterday was the one year anniversary of the death of my dear friend and bandmate, Patrick Fleming from Austin, Texas. Shortly after learning of his passing, I wrote this song — and Jeffrey Dunitz lended his talents to create its Irish rock ballad feel.

In memory of Patrick.

He sang an answer to a question

I had not yet asked

Told a story that was never sold

I put on the album

Cue up my favorite track

Voice like a bell too soon tolled

(Chorus) Can Heaven even hold him?

It must be bursting at the seams

From a spirit that’s just too damn big

Maybe if I’m good enough

I’ll see him in my dreams

And we can do just one more jig

And we can do just one more jig.

I’ll never forget the first time

I heard that voice

Or the last time he said thank you, goodbye

If I could go back, if I had my choice

I’d stay til the Guinness ran dry.

(Chorus) Can Heaven even hold him?

It must be bursting at the seams

From a spirit that’s just too damn big

I will dance and you will play

And it won’t have to end this way

We can do just one more jig

And we can do just one more jig.
